Community Service
UFSC DFW is the pre-eminent financial services organization promoting economic empowerment for the underserved communities in the Dallas/Fort Worth Metroplex. Since 1978, the DFW Chapter has provided financial education initiatives aimed toward youth, college students, the elderly and adults in low-to-moderate (LMI) income communities. Our programming consists of lectures, workshops, mentor groups and days of service throughout the entire year. Signature programs include:
- City of Dallas Bank on Dallas Program – The goal of “Bank on Dallas” is to
introduce underbanked or unbanked residents to the banking system and create more than 25,000 new,
active bank accounts in the next two years. Additionally, residents are encouraged to participate
in FREE financial education that will provide instruction on how to manage their new bank account,
use debt wisely to achieve their financial objectives, and outlines steps to improve and maintain
good credit scores. UFSC DFW is a committed partner working alongside the Mayor, the City of Dallas
and others – such as banks, credit unions, financial education providers, nonprofits, civic and
religious leaders, and bank regulators.

- College Workshops – UFSC DFW oversees Financial Professionals in the Making and
All about the I.C.E., workshops on Resume Writing, Mock Interviewing, Debt/Credit Management, Making
a Good First Impression, The First 90 Days on the Job, Dealing with Difficult People and more. The
series was created as a means to provide diverse college students from throughout the Metroplex with
very specific techniques to manage their finances as well as to help them prepare for the financial
services job market. Industry experts provide personal testimonies and key techniques to help enhance
the lives and potential of diverse Metroplex college students.
- McMillan 20: College Bound… Reaching for the Possible – A mentorship program to
support 20 phenomenal students and their parents with information, activities and financial aid that
will be helpful for increasing their chances for college enrollment.

- Senior Care Workshop Series - This workshop series targeting Senior Citizens offers
Reverse Mortgage information, Medicare Insurance information and Identity Theft Targeting Seniors.
- Southern Sector YMCA: Community Family Fun Day – UFSC DFW spearheaded this annual event with the Southern
Sector YMCA Board in 2008 and it has grown to be one of the largest community family events in the Southern
Sector of Dallas. Each year hundreds of families participate in fun, interactive activities and swimming.
Generous support from local businesses and community leaders provide a positive atmosphere for families to
convene while taking the opportunity to learn about the programming at YMCA. UFSC DFW facilitates financial
education workshops and provides resources for participating adults and children.
